My name is Savannah and I’m 21. I live with my mother and my younger sister. I live in an area that has a nearly non-existent job market, so for the last year, I’ve been working 9-10 hours a day for $20 A DAY looking after a young and troubled child. The job is stressful for both myself and the child, and I’m desperate to get out. I’m in more debt now that when I began working.
So, here’s what I need –
1 - $15 000 to pay off my debt and self-publish a book of poetry. I’ve been told I’m a fusion of Robert Frost and Jewel, which is a great honour. I want to self publish because I want to retain all editorial control over my work, and not have it changed at the hands of an editor. Problem is, I can’t afford to finance this project. And on 20 measly bucks a day, it’s not going to happen any time soon.
2 - $10 000 for my sister’s one-year college course in the fall.
3 - Any amount to go towards a down payment on a house. My mother, my sister, and myself had to move into subsidized housing after my parent’s divorce last year, but due to regulations, we will have to move this summer, as my sister is graduating. As it is, we can barely afford to eat, and keep on top of all the bills. So the greater the down payment on a house, the less hassle a mortgage payment will be. I don’t want to see us end up homeless.
My mother and sister know nothing of my attempts to secure money for them. Both have been so supportive of me over the years, and it’s my turn to give back to them. It is my hope that I can collect the money and hold the best surprise party for them they’ve ever had. I hope and pray for the kindness and generosity of strangers so we can have that wonderful moment.
